Nathi Mankayi’s music took the world by storm and it appears music runs in the Mankayi family as his sister Amanda Mankayi has also just released her debut single titled “Zola Ntliziyo”.
The album was released Friday, 1st of July on iTunes and I’ve been listening to it for about a week. The 10 track album features lead single “Intonga Yam” where Amanda is joined by her brother Nathi. Not only is this my favourite song off the album but it’s one of the songs where I feel like Amanda’s vocals really shine. I also like the fact that Nathi doesn’t overpower her on her own track.
The rest of the songs on the album are very jazzy and traditional, where Amanda reflects on issues of love, life, culture and her musical journey.
“Zola Ntliziyo”, the song in particular will make you reflect on life. Amanda’s music is the kind of music I like listening to on road trips and Sunday afternoons.
I can’t help but be reminded of Zamajobe, Siphokazi and Simphiwe Dana when I listen to Amanda. Overall, this is a beautiful album and I hope South Africa will support her just as much as they did Nathi. I’ve already bought the album online, and I’ll be getting my physical copy soon! #SupportLocal
