Nathi’s sister drops hot track

1 Comment Amanda Article News

Following the phenomenal success of Nathi with his runaway hit Nomvula, his sister, Amanda, is about to unleash a torrent of hits. Amanda released her first single Intonga Yami yesterday and he infectious Afro-pop tune features Nathi.

“It’s about my journey,” she tells me. “I knew I would not walk alone when I trust in God and not people. I believe that God exists and that He would make all my dreams come to pass. This is my Psalm 23, it’s like a prayer.”

MetroFM DJ Bonang Matheba who was instrumental in promoting Nomvula was the first to play Intonga Yami on her show and the feedback has been encouraging.

The Mankayi children could easily be ripe for sibling rivalry. They both entered the Dare to Dream talent search initiative in their hometown Maclear, near Mthatha, and Amanda, 28, won it in 2011. She says it was difficult for the judges to pick a winner, but she triumphed.

The following year Nathi, 32, entered and won. It took him two years to crack the big time and today he sits with the MetroFM Music Award for song of the year for Nomvula.

For Amanda, there were missed opportunities and twists and turns.

But things took a turn for the better this year when Muthaland Records, which has signed Nathi, snapped her up and released Intonga Yami. She has been encouraged by the reception of the song so far. “It worried me that we recorded it two years ago. I wasn’t too sure if it would still be relevant, plus I composed it back in 2012 and sang it for the first time at the Dare to Dream finale that Nkosinathi won. But my peers and contemporaries have been encouraging, so that’s good.”

Amanda says she never lost hope. “I knew that I wouldn’t die with this talent. I had to use it and respect it. Even when we sat at home in Eastern Cape with no prospects. Hope kept us going.”

After releasing his album “BUYELEKHAYA” to great acclaim last year and winning 2 Song of the Year Awards for “NOMVULA” (SABC and Metro Fm Awards), NATHI introduces us to his sister AMANDA. Also from Maclear, AMANDA was the first person to win the “Dare to Dream” competition that was run by the Maclear Municipality in 2011.

On her first single release “INTONGA YAM”…. Amanda features her brother Nathi.
